Naima

Naima, a 46-year-old Venezuelan, lives in precarious conditions in Basel and, after many years in the low-wage sector, she secures a traineeship in nursing. However, her happiness collides with a harsh reality: patients love her compassionate humour, but her colleagues perceive her as lacking professional distance. When she fails her internship, her world falls apart. Yet, Naima rises to fight her toughest battle: standing up for herself.

A film about the unprecedented Swiss grassroots movement of regular citizens who rise to aid thousands of refugees stranded at the European borders. In rich and safe Switzerland people from all backgrounds leave their regular life behind to support people in need. There is a Swiss farmer and his wife who keep cows in the Swiss Alps, a former commander of the Swiss Army, an elder rich lady residing at the lakeside, and a successful comedian and entertainer. These unexperienced volunteers take on an adventure that will change their lives forever.

The new pupils of the integration class Basel have a long journey behind them. Young, and with dreams of a better future, they travelled to Switzerland and now place great hopes in their teacher: He is the one who should show them the way into a new country. They learn the language and culture of Switzerland in just two years. Mr. Zingg, the teacher, has only one goal in sight: to help the young people who have been traumatised by so many hard strokes of fate to find a job in the new society. But a difficult and rocky road awaits them.
